The Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter helps you identify the problem with the store apps and fix them automatically. If an update for Microsoft Store is available, it will start installing automatically. If that doesn’t help or you’ve already got the latest Photos app, proceed to the next step.

It will accumulate unused and junk registry entries which can affect the performance of the system. The security software solution you use to detect and remove malware should automatically fix the Windows Registry. Computer programs regularly save temporary files to storage as part of their operations but may never delete them. The temporary files consume storage space, and some can be very large, particularly those created by operating system updates or downloading programs and data from the internet. Some programs will automatically start as part of the computer start-up, so they are ready and waiting as soon as the computer is operating.

2 End user or entity problems:

Windows registry is a humongous database containing settings information, options, and values for hardware and software installed on your Windows operating system. If you perform a system restore, any changes made to the system files, system programs, and registry settings will be rolled back to the restore point. In addition, any deleted or changed system scripts, batch files, and any other executables will be restored.

If Windows Update is still failing, you might want to consider going to Microsoft to download the update directly. It’s probably not a bad idea to bookmark the Download Windows 10 page on the Microsoft site. If you tell Windows to pause updates, you’ll clear all of the downloaded updates. This is way easier than deleting the SoftwareDistribution directory from your Windows directory, which is my next suggestion. The update that previously failed had completed properly and my system was fully up to date. This will bring up the full Troubleshooting panel.

Check for conflicting software or hardware

Cut and paste the file name into the command line, and then hit the Enter key to run it. (It’s so handy, I keep it on the desktop on my Windows 10 and 11 PCs, as you’ll see below.) That’s all there is to it, as shown in Figure 6. Like types of computer error it or not, those who use Windows Update to obtain and install updates, patches, and fixes will occasionally encounter issues with the Windows Update service. Sometimes, a specific update may not download. At other times, an update may fail to install.
